Light, color, and natural beauty are the elements that fascinate
northern Wisconsin artist Mary McHugh. In the spring and summer she
looks to the rhythm of the foliage in the gardens and forests or the
reflections on the water for inspiration. In the fall and winter she
inspired by the depth of color in the leaves and the pink light and
cast shadows on the snow.
Mary uses pastel
as a medium in her paintings because she likes the immediacy and
vibrancy of the sticks of pure pigment. She is a dedicated artist,
creating and selling her work through local galleries and art fairs,
and continuing her art education through resource books and
workshops. She lives in Drummond, WI with her husband and two
children.
Artist statement:
'One of the
best things about having landscape painting a part of my life is the
awareness of the possible opportunity every day of creating a
painting composition.... looking outside at the morning sky,
watching the light and colors as I drive through the forest roads,
wondering what light the sunset will bring on the water or on the
clouds. I feel the intensity of being alive and am continually
aware of the beauty all around us. I just love everything about it.'
